This month we had three scheduled breakfast meetings to discuss the implications of the new health care law. Joan Galletta presented the program and answered questions for a group of the agency’s current employee benefit customers and invited guests. The event was held at the beautiful Epping Forest Yacht Club and everyone enjoyed the wonderful breakfast.
Because new information and rules are still coming out and the implementation dates are fast approaching it is crucial for business’s to stay up to date on what is happening. Even though enforcement has been delayed on one part of the law it is still crucial that planning happen now so that important and valuable options are not lost.
Joan L. Galletta, JD
Joan Galletta is an Employee Benefits Consultant with JP Perry Insurance, Inc., specializing in group benefits. Joan’s areas of expertise are plan design, compliance issues and legislation associated with group health plans. She earned her law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University Of Florida College Of Law in 1987, where she specialized in contract law. She also holds degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice.
Joan has served as a consumer and legislative advocate in many capacities. She served as State Legislative Chair for the Florida Association of Health Underwriters from 2003-2006 and as Regional Legislative Chair for the National Association of Health Underwriters for the southeast region of the United States from 2007-2009. She is currently NAHU’s Legislative Vice- Chair and she will chair the National Legislative Council in 2012-2013.
Joan was appointed to the Florida Health Insurance Advisory Board in 2006 by Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty, and continues to serve on that board. The Board, which is chaired by Commissioner McCarty, is charged with making recommendations to the Office of Insurance Regulation, Governor’s Office, and State Legislature regarding healthcare regulation and legislation. Joan was recently honored by Commissioner McCarty during his acceptance of the Spirit of Independence Award in Washington, DC.
She is frequently asked to speak on the topic of the implementation of the new healthcare reform law and serves on various carrier advisory panels. Joan has been an Account Executive with JP Perry Insurance since 2003.
